1st Official Radical Dharma Camp will be held July 20-22, 2018 at Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY.
The Camp is explicitly not Race Training 101. Structured on the idea of good old-fashioned “camp,” it does what no other model for addressing systemic racism and oppression does: it rigorously challenges people to be present to how systemic suffering and injustice lives within all of us in spacious, redeeming ways that invite introspection, wonder, vulnerability and fun.
Because Omega campus accommodations are sold out during this program, a room block at a hotel in nearby Poughkeepsie will provide a discount that results in per night pricing slightly less than dorm room rates at Omega.
NOTE: a very limited number of spaces are available.
Red Roof PLUS+ Poughkeepsie
2349 South Rd, Poughkeepsie, NY
Solo Room: $139 per night (plus taxes) for a Double room + Complimentary breakfast
Shared Room: We can set you up with a roommate if you would like to share, reducing cost to $69.50 per night each
Transportation: A van will be available to transport campers the 35 minutes from the hotel to the institute.
Meals: Full paying campers pay $110 commuter fee for the weekend, which covers all meals & open programming on campus. For those accepted on partial scholarship, Omega has generously offered to not charge the commuter fee. Your scholarship will cover the Camp tuitions fees & all food on campus. Partial scholarship recipients have to cover hotel or whatever other accommodations they choose unless other arrangements are able to be accommodated on a per-case basis.
WHO THIS IS FOR
The objectives of RDCamp is to connect peoples already committed to implementing racial justice and anti-oppression interventions in their circles of community, identity and faith and train participants in embodied practices of bearing witness to the impact of racialization on all peoples and to increase capacity to embody the skills necessary for disrupting it while generating a new vision for healing, honoring, playing and being together within similar identities and across lines of difference.
Unlike the camps of many of our youth, we seek to invite and include everyone that has been historically disincluded from having a voice in effecting justice-centered social transformation.
(If you want to a deep dive into navigating and confronting race and its interlocking oppressions, look for a Radical Dharma Conversation or other event this summer & fall near you on Rev. angel’s events page. A 5-day Conversation will be held at Omega August 26-31. Perfect way to end the summer months.)
Taking Radical Dharma Home
The Radical Dharma Camp challenges you to be present to systemic suffering and injustice and helps us become true agents and accomplices of change.
Rather than a retreat think of this as an immersion experience, a deep dive into the framework and practices of the radical dharma approach to confronting white supremacy racial injustice and intersections of dominance and isolation that keep us from freedom – an opportunity to play with us and see how we practice liberation and gather all you can carry to bring back what we do home to your communities and organizations.
We begin with our presuppositions – the operating principles implicit in our book, many were tacitly assumed but few were explicitly named. We surfaced principles like queer dharma, and breaking bread over conversation – but others we wrote from them without naming them – Let’s name them now!
Radical Dharma Five: Framework for Liberation
- Contemplative Approach
- Embodied Practice
- Liberatory Path
- Prophetic Praxis
- Collective Process
Radical Dharm is (more than) the book for Right Now
Radical Dharma is bigger than the book, it is bigger than us. There is a larger framework within it that travels from the cushion to the dharma center to institutions and communities and issues and traditions that shape your life.
We are providing the code and open-sourcing the work.
